I AM ANNE

You are alive, Breath Taker,
As I look upon you everyday
in every echo; in every shadow.

Whatever happened at birth
when they were given each a name—
John, Mary or Anne?

I can see you raising your glass
filled with them: A victory
without tombstones.

Listen: I am Anne.
But, I don’t say Anne
to mean all other Annes.
